MEET THE FOUNDER
AMBER ARA CHOUDHURY-KAYE
I’m Amber, the 25-year-old founder of Ara Eco Design and a British creative based in London, UK.
Ara Eco Design focuses on quiet luxury, that is part of a solution that helps create meaningful moments and protect heritage skills.
I often work alone or collaborate with other creatives.
I advise and work with discerning buyers, designers and brands to discover distinctive, handcrafted products created through slow-made and heritage craft techniques. I source meaningful homeware, gifts and bespoke creations—including our signature “Book of Love” —while celebrating traditional skills, thoughtful design and products made to be treasured.
I have been doing this since I was 8 years old by visiting my family’s heritage nation of Bangladesh where I began to connect with artisans in rural villages. Who to this day, still work sustainably under very challenging circumstances. Including being under threat from climate change, poverty and natural disasters.
My dream is to expand slowly and work across the world to collaborate with more artisans in Central South and East Asia, Middle East, then in Africa, South America.
ARA ECO DESIGN VALUES
Eco-Friendly.
All the products sourced and designed takeninto account the impact on the environment. I’ve been working for over 10 years to understand how global supply chain works and to deliver best practice where possible to minimise the damage to the planet. There can be no sustainability without fair trade and this is something that we work on to the best of our ability.
Sustainable.
It’s very important that we source natural or renewable supplies. Where possible this includes certified FSC Wood, as well as are the materials such as paper, jute that are minimising their impact on critical issues such as deforestation. We are also heading towards B Corp certification so that we can uphold the highest standards of sustainability.
Fair Wages For Artisans
Ara Eco Design is a solo female run business in London, UK. It help us work with sole traders, including many destitute artisans across the developing world. In order to mentor, train and help boost wages for many skills under threat. The more clients we get, the more we can create jobs for impoverished artisans and their families while also preserving handcrafted skills.
Luxury
We define luxury as a quiet, slow, rare, handcrafted experience. Using ancient or natural heritage elements such as wood, brass, tin as well as textiles woven on wooden looms. Without ever compromising on style, and design. So you can celebrate special occasions and religious holidays (Xmas, Eid, Diwali, Hanukkah), while showcasing the natural world in your home or office.
